So I highly recommend if you've done in the past, come back reregistered do it again, you're gonna love this challenge. All right, today, we are talking about three ways to stand out in your US audition. And I gotta say I remember back in my day when I was doing more auditioning on screen acting. And I remember casting directors always talking about making choices to stand out in your audition, doing something bold. And that always threw me this idea to make the audition different to everyone else is more interesting, memorable. And while I understood what they were talking about, I was confused at the same time and tell me if you resonate with what I'm talking about, because I went through a period of trying to come up with something so unique and original and different and memorable. But I felt like the more I focused on that the less connected I was in the character. And the less I was, really in the moment, I felt like I was just trying to stand out for the sake of standing out, but lost sight of what I was meant to be doing. And I've seen so many actors that I've worked with over the years that fall into this trap as well. So that's why I'm inspired to share this episode with you today on how to genuinely standout in your audition. So let's break it down. Alright, one of the key ways to stand out in your US audition, not just in your US audition really but as an actor in general is knowing your actor brand. This is the key to standing out people. That means being clear on who you are, and what you uniquely bring to the table. And this took me years and years and years to figure out. But what makes you unique. And when you can identify that for yourself and bring that to every role that you create, I promise you that's gonna get you to stand out and stand out in a genuine way, not just for the sake of standing out. Why? Because no two actors are the same. No two performances are the same. And when you can fully own who you are all of your quirks, your strengths, your imperfections. That is what's interesting. And too often, I think what happens is that when we get an audition in an American accent, we're so concerned with the accent being perfect that we inadvertently try way too hard to get the performance perfect to write. But guess what, there's no such thing as perfect. And we have to remember that. And we lose sight of that. Sometimes when we're performing or auditioning in an accent. Nobody wants to see perfection. We want real. We want honesty, we want truth. We want unpredictability, and when you can unleash that. That's how you stand out. And that is the second way letting go and performance because I see too many actors holding back. But what are you holding back for? In my observations of being a coach, what I gather and tell me if this rings true for you, is that you're worried to go too far with the accent, or too far with a performance that it might become a stereotype. The character might be fake or forced or unnatural over the top, whatever. You name it.I've heard it all but what happens is when we let our fears our doubts our hesitations our uncertainties creep In, we hold ourselves back from unleashing the truth within the character being present in the moment, we hold back, and we protect, and we played safe. So when we do this, it not only impacts your accent and your character, but also your performance. And do you really think a safe accent a safe character and a safe performance is going to book you the role? Do you think Joaquin Phoenix and the Joker played it safe? No. And think about what would your version of that character be? If you audition for the role of the Joker? Would you have played it safe? Or would you have given yourself the freedom to play and create something wildly captivating on the screen like walkie so check in with yourself and challenge yourself every time to gauge whether or not you're playing it safe in the audition? Let it go. And the third way to stand out in the audition comes in the preparation, the character analysis. This is where you create the All American character. And this is where you need to check in and notice, am I building the character from my perspective or the perspective of an American? How would the American version of me create this role? What choices would they make because in reality, there is a difference. And chances are if you're playing it safe in the character, it could be because you're creating the character from your cultural perspective. And that may not translate on the screen, there is a difference. And while this may take some time to develop this sense of awareness, it will happen if you put your attention and thought into it. So it all begins in the preparation. And those are my three simple ways to stand out in your audition know the actor Brandt let go in the performance and create the character. from the American perspective. We are going to be diving into this and more in the master the American accent challenge.
