SHOW TRANSCRIPT

You're listening to the voice of your brand podcast episode number seven. In today's episode we are talking about, it's not just what you say, it's how you say it. That's coming up next, ready to go behind the scenes and learn what it really takes to stand out as the voice of your brand. I'm Catherine back voice actor and voice coach. And after 20 years of being the voice of other brands, I'm here to show you how your voice is your most powerful tool to creating the impact, influence and income you desire. The world is your global stage. So get ready to uplevel your voice and your personal brand. This is the voice of your brand podcast. All right, let's get into today's episode. And it is short, but sweet. And you know what they say? Good things come in small packages. So even though this is a short episode, it certainly packs a punch. Because my whole thing is, it's not just what you say. It's how you say it. Now when I sat down to write this episode, and think about what I wanted to share with you here today, it reminded me of the power of words how you can read something and be so impacted by the words on a page. And one of the ways I like to use words to motivate and inspire me to take action is in two ways. I love posted notes. I love them. Anytime something pops in my head, I write it on post it note and I put it on the wall just behind my computer screen or around my computer screen. So I can see those post it notes and remind me of things that have just popped in my head. It's also a great source of getting things out of my head, like if a great quote or something I want to share with all of you pops in my head. So I don't forget later pop it on that post it note. So I've got quite a few post it notes. But it's beautiful. It's like a bright color of popery of inspiration all around me when I sit at my desk, and I just love it. I also have a printout of one of my favorite affirmations on my desk. And it's big, and I can see it every day. And it is this my success is inevitable. And I look at it every day. And it reaffirms what I already know, which is that my success is inevitable. But it's great to see that visual reminder because I am a visual person. And I love to see it every day when I sit down. But here's the thing, it's great to have these notes and affirmations on my wall that I can see each day. But I also make a conscious effort to say it to myself as well to really let it resonate through my body and also in my brain. Because it's not what you say it's how you say it, which means it's not just enough to say powerful words, or have powerful words on the page, the words lose their power if they cannot be spoken and with great intention and connection. So let's take my affirmation, for example and use that my success is inevitable. If I just say it without connecting to what I'm saying it might sound like this, my success is inevitable. Okay, so that's fine. I mean, I said it. But honestly, when I said it, I didn't believe it. So if I'm saying my success is inevitable to somebody, what sort of response or feeling are they going to get? So if I were saying this to somebody, what sort of response would I get? If I set it in that sort of manner? Probably not much. But what if I add some sort of feeling, let's say, I'm feeling enthusiastic, and I say it again. So I'm gonna say it with the intention of feeling enthusiastic, my success is inevitable. Now we're getting somewhere, right? Because now my audience now you as a listener starts to feel what I am feeling. And it's getting conveyed through my voice. Now, let's add a different intention. Let's say I want you as the listener to feel inspired. So I'm going to say it again, with that intention that thought in my head to inspire you. And that might sound something like this, my success is inevitable. Can you hear or feel anything when I say it with intention, and, you know, it doesn't need to be a really big shift. It can be subtle, but the aim here is to feel to connect both ourselves feeling that emotion, but then connecting it to the audience to get them to feel as well. You are, in a sense, evoking a response from them. And that is going to be very hard to do if you're just saying the words without any sort of purpose or meaning. So when you are considering that connect action with your audience. Think about this, when you speak, it's about them, the listener, not you. So often we get trapped in our head, right? We get wrapped up in our own thoughts. Or we might think well, what's that other person going to think of what we're saying. But guess what, when we think about this, we make it more about us and not them. And we end up losing that connection with our listener, they become less interested to listen and connect with us. So when you make it about you, and not them, you are the one that's getting in the way of that connection. So you have a choice. Keep making it about the words, keep making it about you keep focusing solely on those words, keep focusing on the thoughts in your head, and not the intention and the delivery of the words, not thinking about why you're actually saying these words, and what that end results. That outcome you want to achieve is how you want these words to impact your audience and how you actually want them to feel. So I challenge you this week to think before you speak and to really make it about how you say it. It's not what you say, it's how you say it. I challenge you to evoke a feeling or a response to your audience. And what do you do, let me know how you go.
